## Description

Dear South Africa is a South African not-for-profit platform that helps citizens, civil society organisations and other interested parties participate in shaping public policy. Launched in 2018, it says its active network includes more than one million people across South Africa and beyond. Rather than collecting petitions, the platform runs legally recognised public participation processes in which each person’s comment is recorded as an individual submission for government consideration. Participation is free, and the platform publishes a report at the end of each project, providing a public record of contributions and a potential foundation for legal challenges to decisions.

Through its website, Dear South Africa invites people to comment on proposed government policies, laws, amendments and municipal measures before decisions are made. Campaigns cover a broad range of issues, including electricity tariffs, fuel prices, education, health, employment, immigration, environmental regulation, local bylaws and municipal budgets. Visitors can browse active and archived campaigns, view reports and public comments from closed projects, and find information about public participation, relevant legislation and government processes. Its service aims to make civic engagement accessible and help citizens influence decisions that affect them.
