## Description

Deep Freeze: A Byzantine Winter Festival is an annual winter celebration in Edmonton’s Alberta Avenue District, bringing residents and visitors together to welcome the Olde New Year through art, culture, and community. The festival highlights the traditions of Ukrainian, French Canadian, Franco-African, Indigenous, Latin American, and Asian communities, pairing cultural heritage with contemporary creativity.

Visitors can explore Pipon Village, try snowshoeing, roast bannock over an open fire, and enjoy storytelling and seasonal food from Edmonton’s diverse communities. The program also features the popular Deep Freezer Races, live music, dance and storytelling performances, ice sculptures, and artistic installations. Family-friendly activities and opportunities to connect over hot cocoa or food cooked over open flames add to the welcoming atmosphere.

Deep Freeze offers more than a festival program: its website shares event updates, photos, videos, and information for performers, artisans, volunteers, and sponsors. Visitors can also support the event through one-time or monthly donations, either online or at the festival.
