Deepika News, also known as Nazrani Deepika, holds a significant place in the history of publishing in Kerala. Founded by Fr. Emmanuel Nidhiry in 1887, it is India's first Malayalam Newspaper.

This pioneering newspaper was printed using a crude wooden press built by the visionary Carmelite monk, Fr. Kuriakose Elias Chavara, at Mannanam. It marked the beginning of organized and free press journalism in Kerala.

Deepika News has since evolved and is now managed by the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI) congregation. In 1989, it was transformed into a Limited Company named Rashtra Deepika Ltd., with public participation. This transition aimed to bring fresh impetus, professionalism, and a new ethos to the newspaper.
