## Description

De Geschillencommissie is an independent Dutch dispute-resolution organisation that helps consumers and service providers resolve complaints when they cannot reach an agreement directly. Before submitting a case, consumers must first raise the complaint with the relevant provider. The commission then gathers the parties’ positions and guides them through a clearly explained process, including information about expected costs and timelines. Depending on the case, resolution may come through mediation, an agreement between the parties, or a binding decision. The organisation states that its decisions are to be followed by both parties and that there is no appeal. Its work covers a broad range of products and services: 85 sectors are affiliated, representing more than 250,000 businesses and providers. The commission also offers practical information about filing and supporting a complaint, previous decisions, and case procedures. Where needed, an expert may visit a consumer’s home, and hearings are held at locations around the Netherlands. Its services also include business affiliation and support for resolving commercial disputes.
