## Description

The Denver Astronomical Society (DAS) is a community organization dedicated to sharing the night sky and encouraging amateur astronomy. Founded in 1949, it brings together stargazers in the Denver metropolitan area and beyond through educational activities, public events, and opportunities to learn from fellow enthusiasts.

DAS hosts astronomy nights, open houses, and special events at the University of Denver’s historic Chamberlin Observatory, its home base. Visitors can explore the observatory and its prized 1894 Alvan Clark-Saegmuller 20-inch refracting telescope. The society also organizes talks and other astronomy activities, including events for families and beginners.

For members, DAS offers ways to get involved through volunteering, an Astrophotography Special Interest Group, and access to resources such as telescope loans and the Kline-Dodge Dark Sky Site. Its website provides astronomy news, educational materials, observing updates, and information for people beginning to explore the subject. By combining public outreach with member learning and participation, DAS helps make astronomy accessible and engaging across its region.
