## Description

Desert Sparkles Fund is a community-supported organization dedicated to expanding educational opportunities for LGBTQIA+ students at College of the Desert and other educational institutions. Its mission is to provide tuition assistance, living funds, and educational programs that help students pursue higher education and develop their leadership and professional skills. Support may cover scholarships, textbooks and other immediate academic needs, emergency expenses related to housing, transportation, or wellness, conference and seminar participation, LGBTQ+ events, university application fees, and campus visits. The fund also collaborates with LGBTQ+ student leadership groups at California community colleges.

From 2018 to 2026, Desert Sparkles Fund reports awarding 215 scholarships totaling $255,000. Its Sparklence Awards recognize students who demonstrate leadership, and the organization shares their stories through showcase events. Fundraising is central to its work: proceeds from its Fantasy Prom, along with donations and other community support, go toward scholarships and student needs. Desert Sparkles Fund invites people to donate, learn about its scholarships, and get involved in supporting students’ educational goals.
