DETCOG (Deep East Texas Council of Governments and Economic Development District) is a renowned brand that serves as a voluntary association of local governments in the 11-county region in Texas. With a vast area spanning 9,413 square miles, DETCOG is one of the largest rural COGs in the nation. Our purpose is to facilitate planning, eliminate duplication, and promote efficiency in the coordinated development of our region.

As a governmental agency, DETCOG does not have taxing or ordinance making authority. We are governed by a diverse 53-member Board of Directors, representing the population we serve. Education is a priority in our region, with excellent public school districts and higher education institutions like Stephen F.

Austin University and Angelina College. Deep East Texas, also known as the Texas Forest Country, offers a high quality of life with natural beauty, recreational opportunities, and a low cost of living. The region boasts four national forests, scenic lakes, historic sites, and vibrant cultural activities.

Our transportation infrastructure includes two Interstate Highways that provide crucial connections. DETCOG's membership includes 11 counties, 40 cities, and 36 school districts, along with various special districts and community organizations.
