## Description

The Detroit Zoological Society (DZS) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating meaningful connections between people, animals and the natural world so all can thrive. Its purpose is to ignite positive change for animals and nature, with a vision of a world where both are valued, understood and protected. The DZS operates the Detroit Zoo and the Belle Isle Nature Center, welcoming visitors to explore wildlife and take part in educational experiences.

The Detroit Zoo spans 125 acres and is home to more than 2,000 animals representing over 200 species. It hosts approximately 1.3 million guests each year. The Belle Isle Nature Center offers free, nature-based programming and education, serving more than 100,000 visitors annually. Beyond its visitor experiences, the Society works across seven continents to support wildlife and habitat conservation, including efforts to address the extinction crisis. Its education programs connect with around 150,000 people each year.

People can support the DZS by donating, becoming members, volunteering or pursuing careers with the organization.
