## Description

The Deutsche Akademie für Sprache und Dichtung, or German Academy for Language and Literature, is an organisation based in Darmstadt, Germany. It is dedicated to language and literature, bringing together writers, scholars and other cultural figures through its membership and activities. The Academy organises conferences, events and discussions that explore literary and linguistic questions, including the relationship between writing and other forms of expression. It also develops projects and publishes works related to its fields of interest.

A central part of the Academy’s work is recognising literary and intellectual achievement through its awards. These include the Georg Büchner Prize, the Sigmund Freud Prize, the Friedrich Gundolf Prize, the Johann Heinrich Merck Prize and the Johann Heinrich Voß Prize. Its programme connects contemporary cultural debate with a long history of German-language literature, as reflected in its record of past members and prize recipients. Based in Darmstadt, the Academy shares news about its events, publications and award ceremonies with audiences in German and English.
