## Description

Diamond Light Source is the UK’s national synchrotron science facility, based at the Harwell Science and Innovation Campus in Oxfordshire. Operated as a not-for-profit joint venture funded by UK Research & Innovation and Wellcome, it serves academic and industry researchers from the UK and around the world. Its synchrotron generates exceptionally bright light, which is directed into laboratories called beamlines. Researchers use these facilities and techniques to investigate biological, chemical and physical materials, supporting work on challenges including health, food security, biotechnology, energy, climate change and advanced materials.

Diamond offers access to a broad range of instruments and research capabilities, including crystallography, biological cryo-imaging, imaging and microscopy, spectroscopy, and the study of magnetic materials, surfaces and soft condensed matter. It also provides user support, computing and data services, training workshops, industry research opportunities, and public and school engagement activities. The facility is upgrading to a fourth-generation synchrotron designed to produce brighter, more coherent light and enhance imaging and analysis.
