## Description

DigiCell is a European collaborative research project focused on improving battery manufacturing and testing across the value chain, from individual cells to complete automotive packs. Bringing together 14 partners from seven countries, the initiative combines materials science, artificial intelligence, machine learning and advanced modelling to make production more efficient, reliable and sustainable. Its work includes characterising battery materials, correlating material properties with battery performance, and developing AI-based models that simulate how batteries behave under different conditions. DigiCell also advances digital twins: virtual models that exchange information with manufacturing lines in real time and help predict process and product quality. These tools are intended to strengthen quality control, reduce material waste and improve battery life-cycle performance. The project supports agile manufacturing pilot lines and automotive applications, while promoting open-source software, international standards and FAIR data practices. Through its Open Innovation Environment, DigiCell encourages data interoperability and collaboration across Europe’s battery community.
