## Description

FLEX, the Future Leaders Exchange Program, is a merit-based international exchange program funded by the U.S. Department of State and administered by American Councils for International Education. Established in 1992, it selects students through multiple rounds of competition in participating countries. Each selected participant spends an academic year in the United States, living with a volunteer host family and attending a U.S. high school.

The program offers students opportunities to engage in their host communities, share their own cultures, and build leadership skills. Participants also take part in American Excellence enhancement activities focused on business, technology, and entrepreneurship, exploring U.S. innovation and achievements. The experience is designed to foster understanding of American culture and priorities while helping students develop knowledge and skills they can use at home.

FLEX also connects students with host families, schools, educators, placement organizations, and alumni. After returning to their countries, alumni can apply what they have learned to benefit their communities and continue building connections with the United States.
