## Description

PortCities Bristol is an informative digital platform dedicated to exploring and archiving Bristol's significant yet complex history regarding the transatlantic slave trade. Originating from a major exhibition at Bristol Museum & Art Gallery in 1999, titled "A Respectable Trade? Bristol & Transatlantic Slavery," this website aims to provide broader access to the extensive resources and research linked to this pivotal historical theme.

The site features a wealth of material sourced from esteemed institutions including the Bristol Record Office, University of Bristol Library, and various museums, showcasing photographs, timelines, and in-depth learning journeys about the trade routes, people involved, and the impacts of the slave trade on Bristol and beyond. This initiative is part of the larger PortCities UK project, which focuses on digitizing cultural and historical resources, promoting education about maritime history, and connecting communities to their heritage. PortCities Bristol strives to shed light on the historical realities of the slave trade while promoting awareness of its lasting legacy.
