Divisions of Family Practice is a community-based brand that brings together family physicians to achieve common healthcare goals. They work collaboratively with community and healthcare partners to enhance patient care and improve professional satisfaction for physicians. The initiative started in 2009 with three prototype communities and has now expanded to include 35 divisions representing over 230 communities.

They even have a division specifically targeting physicians in remote and rural areas. The brand is funded by the General Practice Service Committee, a partnership between the provincial government and Doctors of BC. Divisions of Family Practice has played a crucial role in revitalizing primary care in BC by empowering doctors to build relationships in their communities, promoting leadership, and inspiring healthcare change.

Through collaborative work and the establishment of relationships with stakeholders, divisions have overcome challenges and reversed the trend of physicians opting out of family practice. With the majority of family physicians in the province engaged with them, Divisions of Family Practice is shifting the culture of primary healthcare in British Columbia and supporting the next generation of family doctors to enter a collaborative and exciting environment for change
