## Description

The German National Committee of the Lutheran World Federation (DNK/LWF) represents the eleven German member churches of the Lutheran World Federation and serves as its voice in Germany. Based in Hannover, it coordinates the churches’ work within the global communion and supports the Federation’s theological, missionary and diaconal activities. Founded in 1947, the Lutheran World Federation brings together 154 churches, with more than 78 million members across 99 countries; the German member churches account for around 10 million of them. The DNK/LWF works to promote a just, peaceful and reconciled world, and supports humanitarian assistance and long-term development programs for people in need in more than 20 countries. It also awards scholarships for study and research in theology and related fields relevant to church life. Its work includes fostering international church relationships, theological engagement and youth participation. Through initiatives such as the Luther Garden in Wittenberg, where trees connect churches around the world, the committee encourages fellowship across the global Lutheran community.
