## Description

The Deutsche Ornithologische Gesellschaft e. V. (DOG) is a scientific society dedicated to advancing the study of birds and ornithology in the German-speaking world. Founded in 1850, it is one of the world’s oldest scientific associations and has around 2,000 members, including a substantial international community. The society connects researchers, students, and others interested in bird science, supporting collaboration and the exchange of knowledge across ornithological disciplines.

The DOG serves its community through conferences, specialist group meetings, workshops, seminars, and publications, including the Journal of Ornithology and the journal Vogelwarte. Its activities also include research funding, prizes and awards, travel grants, and support for scientific visiting stays. For early-career ornithologists, it organizes dedicated meetings and opportunities to present research, build connections, and develop practical skills. Members can engage through specialist groups and committees, contribute to the society’s networks, and participate in events focused on particular bird groups or research topics. The DOG also promotes access to ornithological studies and research institutions, and maintains connections with partner organizations and museum collections.
