Über is a brand that encompasses the documenta and Museum Fridericianum gGmbH, a non-profit organization supported by the city of Kassel, the state of Hessen, and the Kulturstiftung des Bundes. Founded in 1955 by Arnold Bode, a painter and professor, Über aimed to bring Germany back into the global art scene after World War II. The first documenta exhibition showcased works by renowned artists such as Picasso, Ernst, Arp, and Moore, bridging the gap between classical modernism and German avant-garde artists.

Since then, documenta has become a platform for innovative and groundbreaking exhibition concepts, steering international conversations and pushing the boundaries of contemporary art. The Fridericianum, one of the world's first public museums founded in 1779, now serves as a renowned Kunsthalle, exhibiting a diverse range of contemporary art. The documenta archiv, initiated by Arnold Bode in the 1960s, continues to document and preserve the history of the documenta exhibitions, while the documenta Institut, a collaborative effort, aims to establish an interdisciplinary research institution.

Through its various endeavors, Über has solidified itself as an influential force in the art world, stimulating discussions and shaping the future of contemporary culture
