Description

The Center for Independent Documentary (CID) has been supporting independent film and video producers since 1981. Their mission is to help tell stories that are often overlooked by mainstream media. CID films have been showcased on PBS as part of esteemed programs like American Masters, American Experience, Independent Lens, and POV.

They have also been broadcasted on HBO, Sundance, Discovery, and LOGO channels, and featured at major film festivals. Many CID films have even received prestigious awards such as Academy Award nominations, Emmys, and the Peabody. But CID's impact goes beyond recognition, as their films are used by various nonprofit and community organizations across the United States and the world.

CID provides comprehensive support to filmmakers throughout their projects, including managing funds, offering creative and technical assistance, aiding in funding proposals, and maximizing a film's impact during release. They also offer fiscal sponsorship programs, professional development workshops, and collaborative initiatives to strengthen the production environment for independent filmmakers. CID is dedicated to promoting diversity and representation in the documentary film industry, focusing on social justice and underrepresented voices.

They are passionate about fostering the next generation of independent filmmakers and equipping them with the necessary tools and resources to tell impactful stories. CID's commitment to excellence has been recognized with the Commonwealth Award, honoring their outstanding cultural contribution to Massachusetts. As a 501(c)(3) organization, CID is transparent and provides complete information about how funds are used.

They are committed to inclusivity and have been designated as a Universal Participation (UP) organization by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, inspiring other organizations to embrace inclusivity as a core value. The team at CID is led by Executive Director Susi Walsh and Director of Operations Mira Simon, both of whom bring valuable experience and expertise to the organization. The Board of Directors includes individuals with diverse backgrounds and skills who contribute to the strategic direction of CID.

Notably, filmmaker Eric Stange, known for his cultural and social history documentaries, is part of the board. CID's impact on independent filmmaking is undeniable, and they continue to pave the way for important narratives to be heard
