## Description

ICAR–Directorate of Onion and Garlic Research (ICAR-DOGR) is an Indian Council of Agricultural Research institute based in Chandoli, Pune district, Maharashtra. Dedicated to two important culinary and medicinal crops, the institute conducts research, extension and development activities to support onion and garlic cultivation and use. Its work includes developing improved varieties and technologies, with featured onion varieties such as Bhima Super, Bhima Omkar and Bhima Dark Red, as well as garlic chives variety Bhima Harita. ICAR-DOGR shares practical guidance through crop advisories, including recommendations on drought management, processing, seed production and pest management. It also offers training and consultancy services for farmers, students and other stakeholders, and supports agricultural entrepreneurship through its Agri-Business Incubation centre. The institute’s initiatives include technical guidance, laboratory testing and other support for food-processing ventures, alongside programmes that promote improved farming practices and farmer collectivization. Its Onion SSR Database provides a resource for advanced genetic research. Through research, education and outreach, ICAR-DOGR works to advance knowledge and innovation across onion and garlic production and processing.
