## Description

Dokku is an open-source platform-as-a-service alternative to Heroku, designed to help users manage applications throughout their lifecycle, from building and deployment to scaling. Powered by Docker, it can be installed on a range of hardware, including inexpensive cloud servers, giving users control over their own hosting environment without vendor lock-in. Applications compatible with Heroku can be pushed to Dokku through Git, built with Heroku buildpacks, and run in isolated containers on a single host.

The project provides installation instructions, documentation, a quick-start guide, and community channels including GitHub Discussions, Discord, Slack, and IRC. Dokku also supports customization through plugins, which can be written in any language and shared with others. Its core is built from plugins, and users can add extensions to tailor the platform to their needs. The website offers a Pro version for needs beyond the open-source edition, alongside options to support the project through sponsorships and Patreon. It also links to official setup instructions for Azure, DigitalOcean, and DreamHost Cloud.
