## Description

The Delaware Ornithological Society (DOS) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to enjoying, protecting, and studying Delaware’s bird life. It welcomes birders of all experience levels and offers opportunities to connect with others through field trips to local birding hotspots, monthly meetings featuring guest speakers, and youth activities for school-age birders and their families. DOS also supports conservation efforts to protect critical bird habitats, working in partnership with other organizations and the state. Its citizen science projects include hawk watches, Christmas Bird Counts, Falcon Watch, bird surveys, and programs for documenting sightings and monitoring bird populations. Members and volunteers can take part in initiatives such as the Bird-a-thon, which has raised funds to purchase more than 2,800 acres of critical bird habitat. The society also shares birding information through publications, an annual journal, a monthly newsletter, and a rare bird alert. Additional offerings include youth scholarships, conservation grants, birding events, and DOS merchandise. People can participate by joining, renewing a membership, volunteering, or making a donation.
