## Description

The Diccionario panhispánico de términos médicos is a collaborative medical-language reference developed by the Real Academia Nacional de Medicina de España (RANME) and the Asociación Latinoamericana de Academias Nacionales de Medicina, España y Portugal (ALANAM). The project began with a 2012 agreement to document both the shared terminology and regional variations used by Spanish speakers in medicine. Presented publicly in November 2023, the dictionary is freely available online through the RANME and connected medical academy websites.

Its principal offering is a searchable resource for understanding and using Spanish biomedical terms, including country-specific forms and usages across the Spanish-speaking world. The work aims to support clear communication between healthcare professionals and patients, as well as precise terminology in medical research, education, translation, and public communication. By recognizing the breadth of medical vocabulary in Spanish, it also promotes the standardization and preservation of the language as a means of sharing medical knowledge. The dictionary is intended to be updated periodically and provides search features, including advanced and English-language searches.
