## Description

The Drents Museum is a museum in Assen, the Netherlands, presenting exhibitions and collections that explore art, archaeology and the history of Drenthe. Its programme includes international exhibitions, bringing works and subjects from beyond the region to local audiences. The museum’s permanent and themed collections span several distinctive areas: archaeology, art from around 1900, the history of Drenthe, painters associated with Drenthe, and contemporary realism. Together, these subjects connect the region’s past and artistic traditions with broader developments in visual culture.

Visitors can discover archaeological objects, learn about Drenthe’s history and encounter paintings and other works across different periods and styles. The focus on artists from Drenthe sits alongside presentations of contemporary realist art, while the museum’s international exhibitions add further variety to its programme. By combining regional heritage with historical and modern art, the Drents Museum offers a varied cultural experience for people interested in the Netherlands’ past, artistic expression and changing perspectives.
