## Description

The Driftage Society is a Japanese academic organization dedicated to the study of materials washed ashore and related coastal topics. It brings together members interested in beachcombing, research, and the cultural and scientific significance of shoreline finds. The society shares information through its publications, including the journal of the Driftage Society and its newsletter, Donburako, and provides access to current and past issues. It also organizes annual meetings that combine research presentations with beachcombing activities. Its 25th meeting took place in October 2026 in Kuroshio Town, Kochi Prefecture, drawing 124 participants to the research presentations and 72 to the beachcombing event at Futami Beach. Based at Kagoshima University, it supports exchange and learning among people engaged in studying Japan’s coasts and driftage.
