## Description

Dr. Margarita Lila Rosa is a historian, curator, public scholar, speaker, and host specializing in Afro-Latin American, Latin American, Caribbean, and Black Atlantic history. A Visiting Assistant Professor of Latin American and Caribbean Studies at Brown University, she earned her Ph.D. from Princeton University in 2021, concentrating in African American Studies. Her research explores gender, reproduction, maroonage, rebellion, and slavery, and she is developing book projects on the sixteenth-century Spanish and Portuguese Americas. Her academic work has appeared in publications including Caribbean Quarterly, The Journal of African American History, and Slavery & Abolition. In 2024, she received the Letitia Woods Brown Article Prize from the Association of Black Women Historians.

Dr. Rosa offers keynote talks, public lectures, media engagements, and organizational events, bringing archival research and vivid storytelling to conversations about history, race, culture, and social change. Topics include Black women’s history, Afro-Latino history, and the transatlantic slave trade. She also teaches and facilitates community-oriented learning experiences in Black feminist thought, and contributes art writing, exhibition texts, and catalogue essays for cultural institutions and publications. Her approach combines scholarly rigor with engaging presentation and inclusive dialogue.
