The Research Institute for Democracy, Society and Emerging Technology (DSET) serves as a national think tank in Taiwan, dedicated to navigating the transformative impacts of emerging technologies on political, economic, and social landscapes. Established under the National Science and Technology Council, DSET focuses on developing holistic policies that address the negative consequences of technological advancements while promoting societal welfare.

DSET is committed to fostering democracy, inclusivity, sustainability, resilience, and innovation. It conducts multidisciplinary research and policy analysis, engaging with local and international think tanks to address pressing issues such as digital authoritarianism and its implications on democracy and governance. The institute emphasizes cross-sector cooperation, bringing together the public, private, and civil society sectors to create effective policy recommendations that safeguard democratic freedoms and enhance national security.

DSET also prioritizes talent development by establishing international research networks to cultivate experts with a keen understanding of the intersection between technology and democratic governance.
