## Description

DSpace is an open-source software platform for building and managing digital repositories. Designed for academic, nonprofit, and commercial organizations, it is widely used by research libraries as an institutional repository and also supports subject-based, dataset, and media repositories. More than 3,000 organizations use DSpace in production or project environments.

The platform helps organizations preserve and provide access to digital content in a wide range of formats, including documents, images, and audiovisual files. Its flexible, customizable features include granular, group-based access controls, support for 22 languages, and integrations with services such as ORCID, OpenAIRE, and ROR.

DSpace is developed and supported by its global user community with help from Lyrasis. The DSpace website provides software downloads, technical specifications, documentation, developer resources, tutorials, and ways to get support. Users can participate through mailing lists, events, code and other contributions, or membership. Membership supports ongoing development, program initiatives, staffing, and operations, while offering benefits such as event and training discounts and opportunities to take part in program governance.
