## Description

Graham Earnshaw is a renowned entrepreneur with extensive experience as a journalist in China and throughout Asia. Born in England in 1952, he received his education in both Britain and Australia. Graham's career in journalism began as a copy boy for the Daily Mirror in Sydney in 1972. He then moved to Hong Kong in 1973, where he learned Cantonese and worked as a junior reporter for the South China Morning Post, covering a wide range of topics. In his spare time, Graham taught himself to read Chinese and even compiled a Cantonese-English dictionary. Additionally, he pursued his passion for music by performing in bars and restaurants as a singer and guitarist. Graham's journey continued as he delved into Mandarin by spending several months in Taiwan in 1976. He returned to Hong Kong and took on a reporting position with Reuters, contributing to coverage on Chairman Mao’s death. He gained recognition as one of the top China correspondents at that time, covering significant events such as the Democracy Wall movement and the opening of Chinese society. Graham's work also extended further as he translated a Chinese kung fu novel and co-founded China's first rock and roll band, the Peking All-Stars. In 1980, Graham became the China correspondent for the London Daily Telegraph, allowing him to travel throughout the country. He engaged in groundbreaking experiences such as visiting Fujian and Hainan as part of the first group of foreign journalists, spending time in Tibet and witnessing a sky burial. He even published a travel guide called On Your Own in China in 1984. After a brief period in Hong Kong, Graham returned to Beijing as Reuters China bureau chief, where he managed a variety of bands and explored Mongolia and North Korea. Graham's journey continued in Tokyo, where he served as Reuters Chief Correspondent for Japan and founded a rockabilly band called Rock House. In mid-1989, he covered the student demonstrations in Beijing and was present on Tiananmen Square when the tanks rolled in. He then moved to Hong Kong as Asian news editor for Reuters and later became the editor for Asia, responsible for news coverage from Pakistan to Wellington. During his time in Hong Kong, Graham released two albums of his own music and recognized the significance of the internet by designing a website for Reuters Asia in 1994. Eventually, he moved to Shanghai in 1995 as Reuters correspondent, reporting on the emerging Chinese financial markets while simultaneously hosting unforgettable parties attended by hundreds of people. Graham Earnshaw's journey is marked by his expertise in journalism and his passion for music and culture. His experiences and achievements have made him a notable figure in the field, and his entrepreneurial spirit continues to inspire and captivate audiences.
