## Description

East Lothian Antiquarian & Field Naturalists’ Society (ELAFNS) is a Scottish charitable society dedicated to exploring and sharing the history and heritage of East Lothian. Founded in 1924, it continues its original aims: studying local antiquities, collecting material of historical interest, publishing research, arranging excursions and lectures, and encouraging wider public interest in the area’s historic and natural heritage.

The society offers a programme of talks, visits and events, including member site visits to places not generally open to the public. Its website provides research tools for searching local history publications, along with indexes to its Transactions and other resources. The digitised publications archive includes more than 40 volumes issued since 1924, available free online, although the latest Transactions volume is reserved for full members. Members can also access current publications, receive a copy of the latest Transactions, and buy back issues at a discount. ELAFNS has also contributed to the Fourth Statistical Account, documenting East Lothian’s economic and social history from 1945 to 2000.
