## Description

East Side Sailing Team (ESST) is a community sailing program organized by yacht and boating clubs in eastern Helsinki and Sipoo. Its activities run throughout the year, with regular time on the water from May to September and winter sessions focused on exercise and sailing theory. ESST welcomes beginners and teaches practical boating skills in a safe setting with trained instructors.

Its children’s sailing school offers day camps and courses that introduce participants to boat handling, steering, and basic maneuvers. Lessons primarily use Optimist and Zoom8 dinghies, with opportunities to sail larger keelboats as well. After completing a course, young sailors can continue through weekly club training and, as their skills develop, take part in competitions in Finland and abroad with guidance from club coaches.

ESST also offers a course for young people aged 15 to 25, combining theory with hands-on sailing in ILCA, Europe, or Zoom8 dinghies, and an introduction to modern J/70 keelboats. Programs are held at locations including Kulosaari, Laajasalo, and Vuosaari.
