## Description

Eau Courante is a French information service that helps people explore the quality of tap water in their commune. It covers 34,774 communes and presents findings from official regional health agency (ARS) analyses, with the latest data reported through July 2026. Visitors can review local results for PFAS, nitrates, water hardness, pesticides, bacteriological quality and other measures, or compare two communes side by side. The site also offers maps, regional and major-city listings, and an explanation of its methodology and quality scores. Its national overview reports compliance rates and figures such as average nitrate and calcium levels, while noting the number of communes with detected PFAS, pesticides or elevated nitrates. Data is sourced from ARS health checks published as open data on data.gouv.fr, with population information from INSEE. Eau Courante provides practical context about potential concerns and when filtration may be useful, while advising visitors to consult their commune’s results and contact their local authority or ARS if in doubt. The information is provided for guidance.
