## Description

The Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) is a court established through an agreement between the Royal Government of Cambodia and the United Nations, with support from the international community. It investigated crimes committed between 17 April 1975 and 6 January 1979, focusing on senior leaders of Democratic Kampuchea and those most responsible for serious offenses. The court’s work addressed crimes committed by the Khmer Rouge, including genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes, and sought to support justice, national reconciliation, and peace.

Court proceedings and investigations took place from 2006 to 2022. Victims and survivors could participate in proceedings, give testimony, and seek recognition through reparations initiatives. Since January 2023, the ECCC has carried out residual functions, including protecting victims and witnesses, monitoring sentence enforcement, sharing public information, and preserving access to court records.

Its multilingual archive contains historical and legal materials in Khmer, English, and French, including evidence and judicial decisions.
