## Description

The Hans and Helga Eckensberger Foundation is a charitable foundation based in Braunschweig, Germany, established on 1 March 1974 in memory of Hans Eckensberger, the first publisher and editor-in-chief of the Braunschweiger Zeitung. His wife, Helga, continued his work after taking over the publishing house in 1966. The foundation uses income from its capital to support cultural, educational and vocational initiatives, as well as people and organizations in need. Its funding is focused on Braunschweig and the surrounding area, particularly the Braunschweiger Zeitung’s distribution region, with approximately €200,000 available each year. Supported projects include community facilities, cultural venues and vocational training, such as playground improvements, organ restoration and equipment for a rehabilitation workshop. The foundation also sponsors the Eckensberger Prize for Young Journalists, awarded every two years in collaboration with the Braunschweiger Zeitung. The prize recognizes outstanding print and multimedia work by early-career journalists from the Funke Media Group. Applications for project support may be submitted at any time; routine operating, construction and personnel costs are not funded.
