## Description

The Edmonton German Fencing Guild (EGFG) is a historical European martial arts (HEMA) club based in Edmonton, offering classes and lessons in historical German fencing. It combines the study of historical techniques with creative, sport-oriented training, giving participants an engaging way to develop fencing skills at different experience levels. Longsword is the club’s mainstay, while members are encouraged to explore other historical weapons, including sabres, rapiers, and polearms.

Training draws inspiration from medieval and Renaissance fencing texts, while practical exercises and competitive objectives help students learn movement and weapon-based fighting. EGFG presents fencing as both a sport and a historical martial art, balancing historical study with active practice. The club also emphasizes friendship and community, welcoming people with varied interests and connecting members with Alberta’s wider historical fencing community through events and competition.

For those interested in getting involved, the guild provides information about instructors, training times and location, equipment, frequently asked questions, and ways to book a class or join. It also offers club merchandise for members and supporters.
