## Description

Eisei Bunko is a museum in Japan dedicated to preserving and sharing historical documents and works of art passed down through the Hosokawa family. Founded by Hosokawa Moritatsu, it holds a notable collection of cultural properties, including more than 300 paintings and calligraphic works by the Zen monk Hakuin Ekaku. The museum presents exhibitions that explore Japanese art, history, and the stories behind its collections, and collaborates with other institutions on research and public programs.

Its autumn 2026 exhibition, “Hakuin World: The Beginnings of the Hosokawa Moritatsu Collection,” is jointly organized with the Aizu Museum at Waseda University. It highlights selected works from Moritatsu’s Hakuin collection and examines connections between the collections of Moritatsu and collector Shigenori Tomioka. Visitors can see works including Hakuin’s paintings and calligraphy, with substantial changes between the exhibition’s two periods. Eisei Bunko also shares visitor information, schedules, and news, and offers wheelchair and stroller loans. Admission discounts are available through partnerships with nearby cultural and hospitality facilities.
