## Description

Elaine Schmidt is a contemporary quilt maker whose work brings together comfort, art, fabric, color, and design. She creates quilts intended to offer both physical and visual comfort, transforming separate pieces of fabric into new textiles with expressive character. Her process is improvisational: she cuts and sews fabrics while following ideas, exploring color and design directions, and responding to what feels right as each piece develops. Schmidt describes quilt making as a journey of discovery, allowing the work to evolve rather than following a fixed plan. Her portfolio includes sections titled Abstractions and Nod to Traditions, alongside individual quilts such as Two Years Ago Today, Fine and Dandy, Shining Through, Connections, and Stuck in the Middle. Through her work, Schmidt explores the expressive possibilities of quilting and the relationship between visual design and everyday comfort. Visitors can browse her portfolio, learn about her approach through her artist statement, explore community information, or get in touch using the contact page.
