## Description

The Sociedade Portuguesa de Electroquímica (SPE), or Portuguese Electrochemical Society, is a professional and scientific organization dedicated to advancing electrochemistry in Portugal. Based in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Coimbra, the society brings together people and groups working across the field and provides opportunities to share research, knowledge and developments.

A central part of the SPE’s work is organizing scientific meetings that encourage discussion of electrochemistry’s progress, achievements and future prospects. These events also help build partnerships among universities, technology transfer centers and industry, and highlight the field’s contribution to innovation and sustainability. The society publicizes upcoming events, past congresses, research groups and news about its community.

The SPE recognizes scientific contributions through awards, including prizes for researchers and young researchers, as well as medals. It also supports the journal Portugaliae Electrochimica Acta and invites new members to join its activities. Through these initiatives, the society fosters professional connections and promotes the development and visibility of electrochemistry in Portugal.
