## Description

The Emergency Medicine Association of Tanzania (EMAT) is a dedicated non-profit organization founded in 2011, aimed at advancing the field of emergency medicine across Tanzania. Comprising emergency physicians, nurses, and allied health providers, EMAT is committed to improving emergency care standards through training, research, and advocacy.

The association emerged in response to the establishment of the first full-capacity Emergency Department and residency training program at Muhimbili National Hospital in Dar es Salaam. EMAT focuses on fostering professional development in emergency medicine, boasting a growing network of 73 qualified Emergency Physicians as of 2021.

Their mission encompasses advancing care through education and collaboration, while their core values emphasize respect, professionalism, teamwork, and a commitment to continuous learning. EMAT also collaborates with global health organizations, such as Abbott, to tackle significant healthcare challenges, ensuring a robust foundation for emergency medical services in the region. Through short courses, scholarships, and various initiatives, EMAT is pioneering a brighter future for emergency healthcare in Tanzania.
