About

Description

EMBARC (Ethnic Minorities of Burma Advocacy and Resource Center) is a non-profit organization based in Des Moines, Iowa, with a satellite office in Waterloo. Established in 2012, EMBARC was originally founded to assist newly arriving refugees from Burma in successfully settling in Iowa. Today, their reach has expanded to empower other refugee groups through their RISE AmeriCorps program.

As Iowa's first and only refugee-led service provider, EMBARC understands both the challenges and dreams of refugee families. Their mission is to remove barriers and foster equity and inclusion by creating opportunities for all refugees in Iowa. Through advocacy, education, and community development, EMBARC serves as the collective voice of different ethnic groups, addressing shared issues and working towards common goals.

They offer a wide range of programs and services, including cultural resources, education, interpretation services, and disaster response. By providing linguistically and culturally appropriate workshops and orientations, EMBARC helps ethnic community members better understand U. S.
