## Description

Emil Aaltonen Foundation is a Finnish foundation established in 1937 by industrialist and philanthropist Emil Aaltonen. Inspired by his belief that national culture is essential to shared wellbeing, the Foundation continues his legacy by supporting scientific research and researchers across different fields. Its grants help researchers at decisive stages of their careers and make it possible to pursue projects that deepen or change understanding of the world.

The Foundation offers individual research grants and project funding for research groups. Its work spans a wide range of disciplines, including history and archaeology, linguistics, and medicine and health sciences. It publishes information about awarded grants and introduces researchers and the projects supported by its funding. Applicants and grant recipients can find guidance on applying, eligibility, grant payments, and reporting on the use of funds through the Foundation’s online services and website.

Alongside its grant-making, the Foundation shares news about funded research and the results it may bring to society. Its mission is to advance the common good by enabling creative scientific research.
