## Description

EMODnet Biology is a European Marine Observation and Data Network service that provides open, free access to marine biodiversity data and data products. It brings together information on the distribution of marine species and their traits across European regional seas, as well as the Caribbean Sea. Coverage includes birds, fish, marine mammals, reptiles, benthos, plankton, macroalgae and marine plants.

The service helps researchers, public authorities and other users find, view and download interoperable datasets and products through the EMODnet portal, map viewer and products catalogue. Its catalogue includes metadata for more than 1,500 thematic biological datasets and around 50 data products. These products combine information from different sources to describe biodiversity patterns across time and space, supporting ecosystem assessments, research and marine management.

EMODnet Biology also develops data access and machine-to-machine services, improves data quality and reuse, and works with European and international partners. Its infrastructure is shared with EurOBIS, and its taxonomic backbone uses the World Register of Marine Species.
