## Description

Encore is a New York-based iPhone app designed to help people reconnect with someone they almost met in real life. Rather than presenting a citywide feed of profiles, it starts with a place and time: members log visits to cafés, galleries, and other locations, then may see people whose member-submitted logs overlap with theirs. An overlap is an opportunity to recognize someone, not proof that they were there.

Members build a profile in the app, which also serves as their application. Encore says every application is read by a person, and its founding class is limited to 75 members, with six months of full access. If two people recognize and choose each other, a chat opens so they can start a conversation grounded in where they crossed paths.

Privacy and choice are central to the experience. Visit histories are not public, and a person’s choice is shared only with the person they select. Members decide whether to connect, and can block or report others when needed.
