## Description

Encyklopedia Solidarności is a documentation and research project dedicated to the history of opposition movements in the Polish People’s Republic from 1976 to 1989. It is carried out by Poland’s Institute of National Remembrance (IPN), building on an initiative launched in Katowice in the mid-2000s by the Pokolenie Association, which initially managed the project before the IPN joined several years later. The site presents a broad collection of knowledge about anti-communist opposition and the varied organisations, communities, structures, and forms of activity that shaped this period. Its core resources are biographical entries covering people from numerous groups, with particular attention to activists in the Independent Self-Governing Trade Union Solidarity, and subject entries documenting key topics and developments. Visitors can also explore a chronology of Solidarity, publications—including scholarly and popular history titles and published volumes of the encyclopedia—and archival materials such as newspapers, stamps, posters, banknotes, envelopes, postcards, and calendars. Search tools, including advanced and tag-based search, help users navigate the collection.
