## Description

The East Phillips Neighborhood Institute (EPNI) is a dedicated community organization in Minneapolis with a mission to enhance the personal, social, environmental, and economic well-being of the East Phillips neighborhood. Born out of a ten-year struggle for environmental justice, EPNI has envisioned transforming a contested industrial warehouse into a cooperatively-owned community hub featuring an indoor urban farm and affordable housing. This initiative emerged in response to chronic pollution experienced by residents, which has led to alarmingly high rates of asthma and other health issues. 

EPNI's efforts culminated in a significant victory in early 2023, halting the city's plans to demolish the Roof Depot site. Today, they are focused on securing funding for the project, currently raising capital for pre-development costs and structural renovations. EPNI is committed to creating a sustainable model that fosters community ownership while preventing further gentrification. Their vision includes innovative solutions like solar energy integration, combined with a collaborative approach that welcomes volunteers and supporters dedicated to building a healthier future.
