## Description

The Eskdale Festival of the Arts is a Whitby-based arts festival established in 1903. Held each March, it creates opportunities for young people to participate in and develop their interests in music, drama, dance, visual art and speech. The festival welcomes participants and supporters, and works with local teachers to broaden young people’s involvement.

Its programme includes competitions across music, drama and spoken word, dance, art and band performance, with classes for junior and senior school musicians. The organisation also runs an annual Choir Day, bringing choirs together to perform, and a Jazz Lunch featuring musicians. A Gala Concert is another part of the festival calendar. Syllabuses, schedules, entry information and updates are available through the festival’s website and social media channels.

Based in Whitby, the festival has a long-standing community focus and aims to nurture local talent while offering opportunities to perform and compete. After disruption during the Covid-19 pandemic, its organisers have been working to rebuild the festival and welcome participants and audiences to future events.
