## Description

The Eastern Shore Chapter of the Virginia Master Naturalist Program is a volunteer corps dedicated to the beneficial management and preservation of natural resources and natural areas on Virginia’s Eastern Shore. Its members receive training and support to serve their local communities through education, outreach, citizen science, and stewardship. The chapter focuses on natural resource conservation, distinguishing its work from programs centered on home horticulture.

Education and outreach activities help the public learn about local nature through interpretive programs, presentations, and events at parks, fairs, markets, and community gatherings. Science projects involve collecting data, monitoring ecosystems, and conducting biological inventories. Examples include stream and vernal pool monitoring, as well as organized bird and butterfly counts. Stewardship projects offer hands-on ways to improve habitats and natural resources, or public access to them. Activities may include invasive plant removal, habitat restoration, and trail building or maintenance, typically on public lands. Chapter service is intended for public benefit, and proposed activities must be approved by the chapter.
