## Description

The Sociedade Portuguesa de Estomatologia e Cirurgia Orofacial (SPECO-AMEP) is a Portuguese professional association for doctors specialising in estomatology, the medical field focused on diseases and conditions of the mouth and face. It represents a specialty with a long history in Portugal and supports professionals treating oral and maxillofacial diseases, facial growth anomalies, salivary gland conditions, and disorders of the temporomandibular joints.

The association connects specialist doctors and trainees through membership, professional events, and continuing education. Its programme includes national congresses, clinical sessions, courses, and meetings for estomatology trainees, with subjects such as oral surgery, implantology, salivary glands, orthognathic surgery, and oral medicine. SPECO-AMEP also shares professional resources and recommendations, information about estomatology services in Portugal’s National Health Service, and guidance on referrals and urgent care. Its committees and initiatives include a national council, a trainees’ commission, and a group addressing unauthorised practice. The association provides information to help the public find an estomatologist and reports on the specialty’s workforce, hospital services, and training centres in Portugal.
