## Description

The Everglades Cooperative Invasive Species Management Area (ECISMA) is a collaborative initiative working to protect the Everglades from invasive plants and animals. South Florida’s subtropical climate and busy ports create conditions in which nonnative species can establish and spread, threatening native wildlife and plants, agriculture, tourism, human health, and restoration of the Everglades ecosystem. ECISMA brings together governmental agencies, nonprofit organizations, and universities to address this challenge.

The initiative helps the public learn about invasive species, understand key terms, and find ways to contribute. Florida residents can report sightings of invasive plants or animals through the IveGot1! reporting service, including by phone or mobile app. ECISMA also provides publications, tools, partner information, and resources such as guidance on early detection and rapid response plant species. Its website highlights priority concerns, including the “Dirty Dozen,” and shares updates and educational facts about invasive species in Florida. ECISMA hosts events, including its annual summit, to support collaboration and awareness.
