## Description

East/West: Journal of Ukrainian Studies is a scholarly, peer-reviewed, open-access online periodical published by the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies at the University of Alberta. It features original research articles, essays, review articles, and book reviews focused on Ukrainian humanities and social sciences, approached through comparative and interdisciplinary perspectives. The journal welcomes previously unpublished work in English from academics, graduate students, and policymakers, and also invites thematic issues led by guest editors, scholarship developed from conferences, and online forums for scholarly debate and exchange.

Its coverage spans Ukraine and neighboring regions, from the Early Modern period to the present. Topics include cultural geography and geopolitics, empires and borderlands, cultural relations, collective identities, gender, multiculturalism, nationalism, and the social foundations of modernization. East/West also supports research that uses web technologies and multimedia, including audio and visual materials. Recent issues have explored subjects such as environmental humanities, Ukrainian war songs, landscapes, historical studies, and cultural memory.
