## Description

Explaining Science is an educational brand founded by Steve Hurley, who holds a PhD in astrophysics from the University of Manchester. Through its blog, YouTube channel, social media presence and e-books, the brand makes scientific ideas clear and accessible to people without a scientific background, while avoiding oversimplification. The blog, launched in 2014, has received more than one million views and has been recognised by Feedspot as a leading astronomy blog; it has also been mentioned on the BBC News website. Its articles focus mainly on astronomy, space and space travel, alongside topics such as climate change, solar energy, time, calendars, electric vehicles and mathematics. The blog is free to read and contains no advertisements. Launched in 2020, the YouTube channel offers organised playlists, including Popular Astronomy, General Astronomy and Physics. Its videos carry a Creative Commons licence, allowing others to share and adapt the content. Explaining Science also offers three Kindle e-books: Short Guide to the Moon, Short Guide to SETI and Short Guide to Venus.
